On our exchange visit to Le Pouliguen in September 2022, I was asked by our then Chairman, Les Beckwith, if I would meet members of their local cycling organisation, since Les knew that I am a keen cyclist. As a result, I had a meeting with Yann Cavalin and other representatives of their local cycling association, Vélo Presqu’Ile, on 2nd September.
Their association exists to promote cycling as a viable means of transport, as well as for leisure purposes. Apart from lobbying for the improvement of cycling facilities in their area and helping with measures to prevent bike theft, Yann and his colleagues organise monthly cycle outings – “Découvertes du territoire” (discover your local area!) designed to encourage cyclists to explore their surroundings on two wheels. We are hoping that it will be possible for us to take part in one of these exploratory cycle rides on a future visit to Le Pouliguen. We have also made it clear that we would be happy to reciprocate by organising cycling trips in the Vale for any visitors from Le Pouliguen to Llantwit Major who would be interested in this sort of excursion.
