A Great Run

Hosting

Unfortunately our wonderful hosts from our visit to Pouliguen last year, Peter and Véronique, were unable to make the trip to Llantwit because of illness, so we (Shelley and Phil) had the pleasure instead of hosting Serge, Lysiane, and Seka.

We very quickly established a rapport based on a mutual love of gardening (particularly Seka, Lysiane, and Shelley!) and a common interest in running (Serge and Phil). Our visitors were with us for only 4 days, and in retrospect we possibly tried to fit too much in.

A visit to St Fagan’s on the Friday, Cardiff Castle and Cardiff Bay on the Saturday, participation in the Llantwit Major 10k on Sunday morning, and an informative history walk round old Llantwit on Sunday afternoon with the very knowledgeable Graham Phillimore. This was followed by an introduction to some of the history of St Illtud’s church by an equally knowledgeable Viv Kelly. That said, we did also find time for long conversations with our visitors in our garden – and we were blessed with good weather.

The highlight for me of the weekend probably was both Serge and I being able to finish the Llantwit Major 10k despite challenging terrain and damp conditions, and for me personally, crossing the finish line hand in hand with Jacques, the President of the Pouliguen twinning committee!
